New Forest Bunkhouse Family Weekend 2025
At the start of September, we returned again to Home Farm, a bunkhouse in the middle of the New Forest. Although we knew where to go this year, the Tesco delivery driver couldn’t find it in the dark. Our tea was nearly returned to Southampton! Thankfully, he tracked us down and so we were able to enjoy cheese and biscuits on our arrival.
We were joined by Rev Clifford Curry who led our matins service on the Saturday morning. He provided us with well known, everyday phrases that originate from the bible to research. Examples of these are “salt of the earth”, “move mountains” and “a leopard doesn’t change its spots”. We then explored the story of Daniel and Belshazzar about “the writing on the wall” and learnt more about where this phrase came from.
In the afternoon, we visited a local country park where we were able to walk along the coast overlooking the Isle of Wight. We enjoyed a short walk through the local countryside. Although the map said the walk would take 30 minutes, we seemed to complete it in just 10 minutes – we are not sure whether we walked extremely quickly (unlikely) or whether we actually just got lost. We admired the wild ponies who watched us on our short outing anyway!
It was soon time to leave on the Sunday morning. This year we had to leave the Bunkhouse by 11 am so we had brunch at a local pub in the New Forest who opened especially just for us – this was delicious and set us all up for the long journey home.
